Intimacy Within Community
-3 minute read
Fill and Spill
What you obtain out of your time in intimacy with God is what you should bring out to community, this is how you spread out His power. We don’t only access God in intimacy, but also not only in community, it's through both in intimacy with the Lord and in community that we see His Glory.
Purpose cannot be accessed only in intimacy with God, but community is required.*
Intimacy is your moment of filling up on Him, and community is where you pour out what you’ve received; through this you’ll see Gods power and glory at work, making you and the community witnesses of miracles. God wants us to discover Him and become witnesses of His glory and power.
“You are witnesses of these things.” • Luke 24:48
Intimacy with God is important, it's your battleground, its where you fight against your own will, to position Gods will in your life. We can even see this in Jesus’ life, where He fasted 40 days -total privacy and intimacy with God- and then was tempted, but overcame temptation, and He went into community.
We need to be filled by Him on a day to day basis not only for our spiritual blessing but for the benefit of those within the community.
We enjoy a life of purpose when we know that He is the purpose and reason we live.
A life with no purpose is a life without God, and you can only access purpose if you have accessed God. Once we have accessed God in our intimacy and through community, it's then that our purpose is made evident. It is through community where you notice and discover your identity in Christ (the reason you were created).
“I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.” • Luke 24:49
A life filled in intimacy with God has to be exposed within the community for the fulfillment of His Kingdom on earth.
How It Happens
So this is what happens: when you take up time to find God in privacy and just allow His presence to fill you up, you are allowing God to position Himself in you to be the first reflection of who you are. What you do in intimacy will be exposed inevitably through community. Because if you lack intimacy with God, then you lack influence within the community, but if you have intimacy with God it will be proven in your ability to serve and love the community.
Great influential leaders are those who have an intimate life in the secret place.
So don’t try to hold it in or try keeping it all to yourself, it's not only about you. Freely give what was freely given. When you pour out into community all that you’ve received, you make way for a new pouring of Gods presence; which will allow you to reach a new level for His kingdom.
Go, pour-out everything you’ve received, that’s how God works through you.
“We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.” • 2 Corinthians 5:20
Purpose is Gods plan of restoration of the world through you.
Invest yourself in intimacy with God, but selflessly invest in others in community.
You can’t give to the community what you haven't received in intimacy with God.
Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” • Matthew 22:37-40
Love God and love your neighbor; both together is where purpose is found.
